Bay Haven Charter Academy K-8

Hurricane Michael

To:          Our Haven family

From:    The Leadership team

First and foremost, our heartfelt prayers go out to you who have suffered catastrophic loss.  We are getting reports from many of you and, again, our prayers are with you.  Many of us on the leadership team have also suffered property loss, but we want to assure you that we are working to get the facilities back up and functioning so that we may return to as much normalcy as possible.

In order to keep you informed of our progress, please look over the bullet points below.  We will be sending regular updates.

  • Just so you know what we are thinking for long term, plan on a possible extended school day and school year when classes resume.
  • If you are in a place with utilities, watch for periodic briefings either through email or website. Spread the news to families on social media who may not be able to get this message.
  • At this point, please DO NOT COME TO THE SCHOOL CAMPUSES FOR ANY REASON UNTIL WE CAN CERTIFY SAFETY.
  • Our facilities experienced damage, but repairs are going to be made as soon as possible.
  • Looking for a SurveyMonkey link later this week for you to provide information to us.
  • Your children will be promoted. Your children will graduate on time.
  • If you are displaced in another county or state and you have enrolled your child in another school, we will not drop him or her from our rolls. In other words, your child’s seat is secure for the remainder of this school year.
  • Unfortunately, all fall and winter sports have been suspended at this time. As facilities become operational, we will address each sport individually.

In the interim, the principals are planning some online curricula that your students may do for enrichment (where possible), such as Khan Academy, Canvas, Success Maker, Read Theory, Aleks, etc.  If you do not have access to online resources, please read to your child on a daily basis, let them read to you, etc.  This work will not be graded, but will assist in providing a sense of normal routine for your child.

Our goal is to be operational by Thanksgiving, but we are hopeful it will be sooner.

Continue to monitor your email and social media for more information.

May God continue to bless all of us.

Larry Bolinger
